Julie - Dawn Lloyd - Soprano


Julie trained as a flautist at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama before taking up her singing career in 1990 studying with Margaret Lobo and also Elena Doria at the Metropolitan Opera, New York. She has performed the operatic roles  Musetta/Mimi ( La Boheme ), Norina ( Don Pasquale ), Marguerite ( Faust ), Susanna ( The Marriage of Figaro ), Adele ( Die Fledermaus ), Adina ( L’elisir d’amore ),Gilda ( Rigoletto ), Despina ( Cosi fan tutte ), Pamina ( The Magic Flute ), Violetta ( La Traviata ), Anne Trulove ( The Rake’s Progress ), Lucia ( Lucia di Lammermoor ) Michaela ( Carmen ) and Sophie ( Der Rosenkavalier ) with numerous opera companies.
As an experienced oratorio soloist, she has sung works by Faure, Mozart, Haydn, Orff and Poulenc. Handel's Messiah with the London Mozart Players at Fairfield Halls has been a particular highlight.
Equally at home on the concert platform with a vast repertoire, appearances at Burgh House, St James' Piccadilly, St. John's Wood, St George’s, Hanover Square, Guildford Cathedral, Pipers, Waterperry,  Hampton Court House, Kingston Parish Church and Regents Park feature regularly.
In the contemporary field, Julie-Dawn gave the premiere performance of “Symmetrical Light” by Raymond Head in Abingdon and sang in a series of Shakespeare concerts for the composer Joseph Summer in Boston, USA to critical acclaim.
She sang with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado in Verdi's Falstaff and Beethoven's Choral Fantasia at the Salzburg Easter Festival and most recently she has performed with  English National Opera in War and Peace, The Elixir of Love, the Trojans, the Magic Flute, Semele, Clemenza di Tito, Jenufa and Death in Venice, Aida and Madam Butterfly at the London Coliseum and at the Albert Hall in the Proms.
Television appearances include programmes ranging from the Classical Brit Awards to the ‘Des and Mel Show’.
